Effective
communication is as vital to the world of musicians as
to any group of individuals coming
together for a shared purpose. Speaking the same language
is essential to performance and is the
lifeblood of musicianship.
If you can recall the last time you heard a direction
such as, “You know that thing you just played,” you
probably were able to get by - in the short run. However,
such vague and highly ambiguous instructions fail to
lend themselves to productive sessions, let alone exhibit
excellence. They are neither effective nor an efficient
way for players to conduct a musical conversation. It’s
okay if one’s bar is set low. But for those who desire
to
grow and excel, mastering the language is the key.
| "When
I began reading 'Music Theory for Self-Taught and
Non-Reading Musicians', I couldn't put it down. In
fact, the first night I opened the book I read through
it in its entirety." |

All musicians desire to jump
right into the “fun-zone” - and as quickly as possible.
It’s only natural. However, in order to arrive there,
and be able to thrive there, it is vital to have tucked
away deep under our belt all the
tools necessary to get where you want to go - and then
once there, enjoy the process, playing at great ease
and confidence. Language will do this for you - and
then some.
I’ve known many a talented musician
who have said something to the effect: “I don’t need
to know that theory stuff and will never use it - I just
want to have fun!” It won’t be long afterward that a
lack of basic
fundamentals will rob them of greater opportunities to
serve and relish in unbridled fun on their instrument.
The story is as old as music itself.
I have a challenge and a promise:
do the work as it’s laid out in the workbook, and
you will learn the language. Most likely you’ll arrive
and thrive in the fun-zone at an accelerated pace - faster
than you
can imagine. Along the way you may even discover a few
tools of the trade you’ve previously mastered
but simply didn’t know their name or function. Now, however,
with a new found awareness of what you
know, you can wield it at will. The difference it will
make in your craft will be meaningful and massive.
Our journey begins at the equipping station: here we
will stop to load up with the FUN-mentals! You know,
the
need-to-know fundamentals (basics). And yes, we’ll make
the process fun! Here are just a few of our stops:
- circle of 5ths: you’ll see how scales and chords
are formed and work together - mind-blowing!
- scales: the language of musical freedom - we’ll
show you just how easy they are, truly.
- notes: you won’t believe how fast you’ll understand
your instrument with our interactive note trainer.
Fun!
- formation of chords: once you know your scales,
you’ll breeze thru.
- chord family: I’ve seen more musical breakthroughs
with this knowledge than any other.
- modes: a phenomenal way to add color and texture
to your creativity.
- chart reading: we’ll equip you with the skill to
play any gig by going step by easy step.
Finally, we’ll show you how to put it all together.
Not only will you be amazed how quickly you’ll master
the indispensable techniques of chart reading, you will
also see how far and how fast you have come in all
aspects of the music Fun-mentals. The elevation of
your creativity and physical prowess on your
instrument will electrify you.
That is the beauty and power
of Music Theory for Self-Taught and Non-Reading Musicians.
It’s my honor to help you on your journey. |
