Vernon
Porter is a marvel. I have been fortunate enough
to play with some of the best Bass Players in the
world on repeated occasion; players like Will Lee,
Pino Palladino, Tony Levin, and Nathan East. I easily
put Vernon Porter in that category. A magnificent
bassist and in addition a great heart, a great teacher,
and a great musician period. He has come up with
a clear and concise instruction book for young musicians
who want to learn the essentials of music all the
while pursuing playing, writing, and leading worship
music. This is his 12 Tone method (very much different
from the 12 Tone Composition method of Arnold Schoenberg
but I digress.) There are a lot of people out there
who are wannabe stars and want to pass over the very
essentials of music. Vernon
can help focus the young musician and help them get
their priorities straight. He is also a great mentor.
Most importantly, the workshop series he is starting
is one where musicians get to work with one of the
finest Bassists and musicians in the L.A. area. How
often is that available??? Vernon is the man.

Gifted
mentors make easy what seems complex. I've studied
bass with Vernon for about 9 months now... but within
only a matter of hours at the start, I found myself
speaking a new language that immediately took me
to the next level. After
literally decades of piano, trombone, bass, vocal
groups, musical theatre, you name it, I suddenly
had understanding and insight that had eluded me
for years. Vernon cuts through a lot of weeds to
get you to the heart of the matter in a very short
period of time.....and he does it vibrantly, with
passion, and a boat load of delicious humor. He is not only an extremely talented musician
and teacher who has worked with some of the best
talent in the recording industry, he truly walks
the walk as a man of God, giving all credit to the
Father as he edifies those around him. I am convinced
God led me to Vernon , and I am eternally grateful
to be able to call him my friend.

"When
you meet Vernon Porter, it takes all of about sixty
seconds to realize the gifts and talents God has
placed in him. Vernon first came to us as a bass
player, who served in many services a month. However,
it was quite apparent that his giftings were beyond
just playing the bass. His
experience, spirit of excellence and sincere heart
to serve the Lord makes him a leader. So we hired Vernon to work with our
band and vocalists over a 6 or 8 week period of time.
Our team rose to a new level musically and vocally.
It was amazing for me personally to be a part of
it. We were in one accord, and one sound, pleasing
to the Lord - and our confidence grew as a result.
There was an incredible energy that we all had after
working with Vernon. We were excited about praising
and worshipping God, and amazed at how much we had
grown. Vernon was so easy to work with because his
heart is so wonderful. He is genuine in his desire
to champion music ministries everywhere to a new
level in worship. He could have chosen any path,
but God has interrupted his world and Vernon is making
himself available and obedient to this calling. I
can’t sing enough praises about him and I’m so proud
to call him my friend!"

For
the past 15 years I have known Vernon Porter as a
friend and colleague. He brings both a passion for
music and worship to everything he does and he has
successfully trained scores of musicians and worship
leaders over the years. For several years I was privileged
to be a worshipper in the same church wherever
a part of the Worship team. I
know Vernon always strives for excellence in what
he does and to seek to bring a creative touch to
both his teaching style and his music. He
is also refreshingly humorous and puts his students
at ease immediately. At the heart of it all is a
desire to sincerely worship our God. I am blessed
to have him as my friend and to support this ministry.
I hope you get to know him as I do. You will be glad
you did and your ministry will be enriched.

Vernon
Porter is, first and foremost, my friend. I
consider him to be a
true covenant brother. I have had the privilege of
standing shoulder to
shoulder with him while ministering to the body of
Christ,
standing with him
because as a co-laborer while Vernon is leading worship,
I
can not sit down
He is one of the few worship leaders
that makes me
involved with all my
spirit while he leads. Vernon's a gifted musician
and
an extremely talented
and soulful singer; also, a word that is often over
used,
he truly is
anointed when using his gifts.
One thing I have noticed in particular is his
consistent
ability to draw
from the congregation the absolute finest singers
and
musicians; people want
to get involved with the praise. He is a very talented
song writer, and I
have also had the privilege of working with him in
the
recording studio;
under pressure he is calm and composed and true to
his
calling.
More importantly is Vernon
off stage; he genuinely radiates a Christian
spirit. He is the real deal. I know him to be a loving
father to his two
children, and God has blessed him with a beautiful,
spirit-filled and
supporting wife.
I highly recommend Vernon Porter the worship leader,
the
singer and the
man of God.
Thank you for sharing your gifts with the rest of
us and your faithfulness to God's work!

As a singer, song writer, and guitarist, I am constantly
looking for ways to
improve my talents. I have a small library of music
theory
books that I have
purchased over the last 15 years that I have tried
to get
through.
Understanding what is written in most of these books
requires a college
degree in music or a good instructor that can explain
the
concepts.
Finally, an instructional music theory book that
takes the
fundamentals and
critical building blocks of music to a level, that
anyone
with an interest
in music, no matter what level you are currently
at, will
benefit from. When
I began reading Music Theory for Self-Taught and Non-Reading Musicians",
I
couldn't put it down. In
fact, the first night I opened the book I read through
it
in its entirety. I
have been able to sharpen areas of theory I used
to
understand but have
forgotten, and more importantly, this book has put
into
light ideologies of
music I have not been able to grasp until now! As
a
worship leader, I
believe it's is important to give God our best! This
book has provided me
with the tools to be a better steward of the gifts
God has
given me. Every
Church with any type of music ministry should make
it a
requirement to go
through this program. You will benefit spiritually,
musically and the end
result is that it will bless so many others because
your
worship will rise
to a new level of excellence.
This is a must read for all
musicians!
